Who are the Rat Queens?
They’re a pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire and they’re in the business of killing all the god’s creatures for profit. Meet Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric and Betty the Hippy Smidgen Thief.
This modern spin on an old school genre is a violent, monster-killing epic that is like Buffy meets Tank Girl in a Lord of the Rings world on crack!
If you want Badass girls mix with Dungeons and Dragons then this is the comic for you. If you had watched Critical Role then you know this has been recommended by the two beautiful girls from that series Laura Bailey and Marisha Ray, and now I am recommending it as well.
The first thing I want to talk about is the story where the Rat Queens along with other groups of fighters been given assignments from the mayor unaware that an assassin being hired by someone who wants these people dead. It is a very simple linear story with a few twists along the way but what makes it more exciting is there is enough room to give introduction and understanding to the main characters. We get to see Dee’s introverted ways, Violet’s brother, Betty trying to get back with her love interest and had to pick between her and her friends and Hannah, a rebellious elven who seems to be the main course of ruckous in the town along with there abilities and how they use them to fight, help, and trying to uncover secrets that could connect to the main story. Despite how different these characters are, they have great chemistry between each other which you can tell how they fight together, talk together and willing to be there for each other whenever the other needed help, (especially Violet and Hannah).
The art itself is incredible, not only does it give so much detail to the scenes but it also has great eye for perspective, shading and colour along with the characters body shapes, movement and facial expressions.
Overall it is a fantastic read and I recommend it highly. Be warned as it has swearing, blood, killing, and hints of sexual contact.
