Guards! Guards! (Discworld #8 City Watch #1) by Terry Pratchett Review

This is where the dragons went. They lie… not dead, not asleep, but…dormant. And althoughthe space they occupy isn’t like normal space, nevertheless they are packed in tightly. They could put you in mind of a can of sardines, if you thought sardines were huge and scaly. And presumably, somewhere, there’s a key…

Guards! Guards! is such a joy to read. One of the few where I seriously get hooked by I love the characters, the plot, the humor behind it and lots of action going around. However when it comes to trying to get into what’s going on, you do have to sit down and concentrate, but once you get into it you can never put the book down.

There is a huge character development on Captain Vimes where you will see him transforming from a useless City Watch to a hero, the City Watch will have a sweet, little dragon companion called Errol that gives a story a good balance with a huge dragon that ended up taken over Ankh Morpork. And for people who are familier with the Discworld series, you will meet other character that you know from other Discworld books like the Librarian, Cut-Me-Own Throat Dibbler, the Patrician and even Death made a few cameo appearances.

I also love Terry Pratchett’s writing style, particularly on this book and gives me the urge to read the sequel.

For people who are new to the Discworld series, I recommend you start on this book as it is a good starting point on what the Discworld and Ankh-Morpork is about, and a good recommendation to people who loves fantasy, action, humour and DRAGONS!

For this fantastic book I decided to give:

4 1/2 out of 5 cups of tea 😀
